Generate Gmail variations of your own address
Gmail treats yourname@gmail.com, your.name@gmail.com and yourname+news@gmail.com as the same inbox. You can use this to filter mail or run tests while everything still lands in your own Gmail.
Only use this tool with your own Gmail address. Every variation delivers to the same inbox.
How Gmail reads an address
- Dots are ignored.
y.o.u.r.n.a.m.e@gmail.comstill reachesyourname@gmail.com. - Everything after a + is ignored.
yourname+shop@gmail.comstill reachesyourname@gmail.com. - googlemail.com equals gmail.com.
yourname@googlemail.comreaches the same inbox.
These rules apply to personal Gmail accounts. Google Workspace accounts on a company domain may behave differently.
What it is useful for
- Filtering: sign up for newsletters with
yourname+news@gmail.com, then create a Gmail filter that labels them automatically. - Finding out who leaked your address: use a different tag for each site. When spam arrives at
+shopname, you know where it came from. - Testing sign-up forms on your own website with many addresses, without creating extra accounts.
Limitations
Many websites know these tricks and strip dots and plus tags before comparing addresses. Some do not accept a + in an email at all. If you need a completely separate address that does not deliver to your Gmail, use an EmailPuff temporary email instead.
