How to receive verification codes (OTP) with a temporary email
A temporary email is handy when you need a verification code to try an app, download a file or join a forum without handing over your real address.
The steps
- Open EmailPuff. A random address is ready, or type any name you like into the address box.
- Click Copy.
- Paste the address into the email field on the site you are signing up for and request the code.
- Go back to the EmailPuff tab. The new message appears in the inbox on its own, highlighted in green.
- Click the message to read it, then copy the code or click the confirmation link.
Tips so you never miss a code
- Turn on sound and notifications under Settings on the home page. You will know as soon as mail arrives, even from another tab.
- Keep the EmailPuff tab open while you wait. Closing it does not lose mail, but you will not be alerted.
- Use the code right away. Most verification codes expire within 5-15 minutes.
- Remember the address if you need to come back. Recent addresses keeps the ones you have used in this browser.
When not to use a temporary email
EmailPuff inboxes are public and messages delete themselves after 1 hour. Anyone who knows the address can read the mail, and deleted messages cannot be recovered.
So never use a temporary address for:
- Banks, payment apps, or any account that holds money or card details.
- Work, school or government accounts.
- Any account you want to keep long term, because you will need the email later to reset your password.
- Anything that sends personal information by email, such as documents, contracts or medical results.
